Detention order: Courts orders police to stop harassing citizen

The petitioner said that on June 13, the court had directed police to stop harassing him and his family

LAHORE:

An additional district and sessions judge directed police on Wednesday to implement the court’s order on a petition requesting the judge to restrain police officials from harassing the petitioner and his family.

Petitioner Shahid Mahmood Chaudhry had accused police of harassing him although his name was not on a list carrying the names of those ordered detained by the Home Department.

Chaudhry said that on June 13, the court had directed police to stop harassing him and his family. He said apparently the Civil Lines SP, the Anarkali DSP and the Lytton Road SHO still wanted to arrest him.

He said that on August 3, police had raided his home. He said he was not home at the time. On March 3, he said, Lahore High Court, too, had directed them to not harass him.

Chaudhry said the police officers had told him that his name was on the list prepared by the Home Department.

On December 23, 2012, Home Department Section Officer Nasir Suleman told the LHC the petitioner’s name was not on the list. He said the home secretary had already said that the petitioner’s detention order could not be issued on the basis of the FIRs registered against him once the petitioner had been acquitted of the charges.
