Balochistan’s youth

Letter August 03, 2015
Balocistan government should ensure youth are not ignored and recreational programmes are established for them

TURBAT: Balochistan is a well-endowed province with much potential for progress although the people here still do not enjoy full rights as citizens of the state and are being ignored by the provincial government. A statement was recently given by a former captain of the Pakistan cricket team, Wasim Akram, that he will supervise the Pakistan Cricket Board’s training programme for upcoming talented bowlers. The statement also said that those who will be part of the programme will be selected by the national selection committee.

It seems that there is going to be no representation of Balochistan in this training programme. There are plenty of Baloch youngsters who possess talent in cricket as well as in other areas, but have no opportunities to showcase it. When our youth are not provided with platforms to explore and exercise their various recreational interests, they turn to violence and other criminal activities. I request the Balocistan government to ensure that the province’s youth are not ignored and that recreational programmes are established for them.
