Crime round-up: Alleged militants, gangsters arrested

Police officials say gang belongs to Zahid Shooter of Lyari-based gang

Around a dozen suspects were taken into custody by the police during raids in different parts of the city on Saturday.


Two suspected members of a banned outfit, identified as Abdullah and Saifullah, were arrested in an injured condition after an exchange of fire with the police in Saeedabad, Baldia Town. Police officials said that the encounter took place when the militants were trying to flee after attacking the police. Both the suspects were injured in the retaliatory fire and taken into custody. Similarly, three alleged gangsters were apprehended in targeted raids by the Rangers in Lyari.

In another encounter, a gang of extortionists was busted after the police arrested a key suspect, Junaid, and his female accomplice, Quratul Ain alias Pholan Devi. Police officials said that the gang belonged to the Zahid Shooter group of a Lyari-based gang. They were caught red-handed when they had arrived to collect extortion from a trader in Kharadar.


Meanwhile, five other suspects were apprehended during raids in Baloch Colony, Awami Colony and Orangi Town.
