Electoral reforms

Lessons should be learned from LG polls in K-P and provincial EC should try to hold elections according to the law

LAHORE: MQM chief Altaf Hussain has called for investigating the source of funding for the PTI’s dharna. This will only increase confrontation and the whole exercise will be futile. Political parties need to shift their energies towards electoral reforms for making the general elections of 2018 more free and fair than the 2013 elections were.

The Election Commission of Pakistan has had ample time to plan for the upcoming local government elections in Sindh and Punjab. Lessons should be learned from the LG elections held in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and the provincial election commissioners should try their level best to hold elections according to the law. This will be a viable way to strengthen democracy.
