Blasphemy laws and lack of courage

Letter December 21, 2010
Tolerance is at its lowest level in our country and it is all due to our education system.

KARACHI: This is with reference to your editorial of December 21 titled “Blasphemy law and lack of moral courage”. The blasphemy law and the war on terror has become a ‘survival issue’ for some political parties. Tolerance is at its lowest level in our country and it is all due to our education system. There is only the concept of ‘us’ being right and ‘others’ being wrong. It is only by understanding, appreciating and tolerating the ‘other’ — people of different religions, caste and colour — that the mindset of this country can be balanced.

China, Japan and scores of other countries are neither Muslim or Christian but are still better than us from all angles, be it the standard of living or governance.
