ISLAMABAD: Police on Monday arrested three kidnappers who were trying to escape to Peshawar after abducting a man from Chungi No.26, a police spokesman said. According to details, police received a message that a car (IDB-8729) was heading towards Chungi No.26 with two of its occupants carrying ransom money for the kidnappers of Azhar Mahmud.

The police reported that when Azhar’s brother Asad got off the car for the exchange, the kidnappers pushed him into their own car and headed for Peshawar.

Azhar and Asad’s father Bashir, who was waiting in the other car, immediately contacted the police on his mobile phone and told them that Asad had also been kidnapped when he tried to hand over the ransom.

Bashir told the police that he was following the kidnappers in his car in the Tarnol area. Police patrols in the area were immediately informed and succeeded in intercepting the kidnappers at Sang Jani Toll Plaza.

The arrested kidnappers were identified as Firdous Alam, Ikhlaq Ahmed and Dr Abdul Rauf. One Kalashnikov and a 30 bore pistol were also recovered from them.
