No promotion, no pension

Self-centered bosses have instituted measures that are anti-employee, unjust and do not reward talent and hard work

ISLAMABAD: It is an undeniable truth that ours is a callous, discriminatory and unjust society. In this country, even today, there exist such government-funded organisations, at the federal level, where there is neither promotion of their employees to the next higher grade nor pensions for them after retirement. Many ill-fated employees have been stuck in the same grades since their appointment and will continue to remain there until retirement, if there is no proper legislation that seeks to alleviate their plight. They haven’t been promoted but have watched their comrades, class fellows, and colleagues climb the career ladder because of their connections. In such organisations, promotions are not earned through hard work and also as per Esta Code of the civil establishment, but through other means.

Many employees have become over-age and different public sector organisations, both at the federal and provincial levels, do not entertain their applications through proper channels, because those with vested interests in these organisations have made every possible effort to protect and promote their own favourites. Self-centered bosses have instituted measures that are anti-employee, unjust and do not reward talent and hard work. The deprived and denied employees of these organisations have continuously moaned and whined about the injustice and discrimination they face, but who cares in this callous, discriminatory and unjust society? Here, it is apt to quote Martin Luther King Jr, who once said, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
