Rangers arrest 10 MQM workers from Karachi

Paramilitary force says they will not allow any political or religious party to collect donations or fitra by force

Sindh Rangers on Friday arrested at least ten workers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) from different parts of Karachi.

Three workers identified as Zulfi, Kasu and Imran were arrested from Karachi's Liaquatabad area while two others, Nafees and Arshad, were detained from Azizabad.

Further, later during the day, three more MQM workers identified as Qadir, Danish and Saleem were taken into custody from Saeedabad area of Baldia Town.

Similarly, in an overnight raid, two other workers of the party were arrested by Rangers officials bringing the total number of arrested on Friday to 10.

These arrests come just a day after 16 workers of the party were arrested for allegedly extorting money from Karachi’s Rizvia society. “At least 1,000 receipts for donations and Rs31,500 were recovered from the men,” a Rangers press release had said.

The Rangers had clarified they will not allow any political or religious party to collect donations or fitra by force.

Rangers have appealed to citizens to report at Rangers Helpline 1101 any incident of extortion of forcible collection of donations ensuring that Rangers would provide protection to the public.
