DI KHAN: The services of the Water and Sanitation Services Company (WSSC) have been extended to DI Khan by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government.

WSSC would be provided with the latest machinery to supply water in eight union councils of DI Khan city. According to officials, the issue of water supply would first be solved in five union councils.

The staff for the company will be taken from DI Khan’s current Tehsil Municipal Administration and Public Health department. DI Khan Commissioner Zakir Hussain Afridi will be the chairman of the company’s board of directors.

According to a handout issued earlier, CM Pervez Khattak handed over licences for the company’s operations to the relevant divisional commissioners during a meeting at CM House. The company had initially been launched in Peshawar in 2014 where it took charge of the municipal services of the city.

The handout that was issued on June 24 said the company had been formed in the remaining six divisional headquarters of the province along the same lines as in Peshawar – DI Khan, Hazara, Swat, Kohat, Bannu and Mardan. It also mentioned the company will provide water, sanitation and solid waste management services to the residents of the districts. In addition to focusing on supplying potable water, the company will also ensure beautification of the areas within its respective jurisdictions.
