Facilitating durable peace

Letter June 28, 2015
The Afghan government should also unequivocally trust and acknowledge Pakistan’s cooperation

LAHORE: Pakistan hosts the world’s largest refugee population from Afghanistan, and has always been genuinely and sincerely concerned with the security situation of that country. Currently, Pakistan is facilitating peace negotiations between Afghanistan’s High Peace Council and the Afghan Taliban.

Our role in the reconciliation process will encourage the establishment of durable regional peace and stability. The Afghan government should also unequivocally trust and acknowledge Pakistan’s cooperation so as to achieve lasting peace with inclusion of regional guarantees. Elimination of violence, terrorism and extremism should be a common goal for Pakistan and Afghanistan, and it is hoped and prayed that they will meet with success in this endeavour, and achieve peace and prosperity for the people of both countries.
