TORKHAM: At least one person was killed, while four others were wounded when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded near the main gate of the Pak-Aghan border in Torkham, Khyber Agency, officials said.

The IED was planted in a wheelbarrow and went-off as officials were busy searching luggage the gate, Subaidar Azghar Shinwari, from the border post in Torkham, told The Express Tribune.

As a result, five people, including two khasadar officials, sustained injuries and were shifted to the Landikotal hospital, where one of them, a passer-by, succumbed to his injuries, said the official.

The border was closed for a few hours after the incident but reopened late under tight security.
