The Jumme Ki Raat singer has been arrested in New Delhi by police on Thursday over the slap controversy in April when he assaulted a doctor.

Mika Singh was accused of having slapped Dr Shrikant, an ophthalmologist at Ambedkar Hospital on stage at a concert.

“While performing, Mika had called some of the audience on stage for an activity. During the activity, something done by the doctor irked Mika who then slapped him and handed him to the bouncers,” said a police official.

However, Mika's defense was that the doctor was drunk and made a rude gesture at the singer after he was repeatedly asked not to stand near a group of women at the concert.

“I called him up on stage, and asked him whether he would feel just as comfortable doing the same actions on stage or in front of his family. He continued his tirade of swearing after which I lost my cool which I probably shouldn’t have and slapped him," said the singer.

“I did what I felt was for the betterment of our ladies and children and I will always continue to stand up against what is wrong,” he added.

According to Focus News, the victim suffered some internal injury inside his left ear due to the assault. An FIR was filed against the singer in which the police registered a case of causing hurt and wrongful restraint.

The doctor alleged that the singer insulted him and slapped him on stage. Mika was questioned by the police on Thursday and arrested after.

However, it's highly likely that the 38-year-old singer will be released on bail from the police station.

Mika Singh, who celebrated his birthday on Wednesday, is the voice behind several Bollywood hits including Jumme Ki Raat fromKick and Subah Hone Na De from Desi Boyz. He has been travelling in the months that have passed since the FIR was filed, and recently attended the IIFA weekend in Malaysia.
