ISLAMABAD: The budget for the fiscal year 2015-16 has become the proverbial talk of the town. Budget documents and reports, coupled with recent increase in the tariff of petrol and other petroleum products ahead of the budget, have multiplied the suspicions of all and sundry that the upcoming budget will not be poor-friendly nor will it benefit the salaried class. It will be appropriate to quote the words of A A Latimer here: “A budget is mathematical confirmation of your suspicions.”
In the wake of the price hikes for edible goods, the financially-pressed salaried class expects some reasonable relief from the PML-N government. Also, budget allocations and spending must be improved to achieve the eight Millennium Development Goals.
