LAHORE:

We have seen many female actors bid adieu to Lollywood as soon as they settle down but Sana Nawaz decided against relinquishing her hard-earned success.  Making her debut with Syed Noor’s Sangam in 1997, she smoothly paved her way through the industry, securing a position in the top tier of actors.

Since then, she has worked in over a hundred Urdu and Punjabi films. Not only that, Sana also marked her presence across the border by playing a role in Sunny Deol-starrer Kaafila. Currently, gracing the fashion runways, Sana discusses future endeavours and prospects of the film industry with The Express Tribune.

“There was a time when I would play any kind of role, especially at the beginning of my career but now things are different and with the passage of time, I’ve changed my priorities,” she said. She settled down in Karachi after getting married and is focusing more on modeling these days. But we can’t say that she has quit the film industry, as she has recently done an item number for upcoming film Ishq Positive. “I’ll only work in ideal films and play selective characters.”

Sana feels lucky to be counted among the list of successful actors in Pakistan and considers hard work and passion the key to success in showbiz. Although — a newer lot of talent seems to be working hard towards the revival of the industry, Sana called it “immature”. She believes that this is the right time for the veteran filmmakers to come forward and play their part in strengthening the industry. “The industry honoured us with people like Syed Noor, Sangeeta, Hasan Askari and Iqbal Kashmiri and now, is the time for them to rise to the task”.

Besides these names, Sana is also inspired by former film actors Anjuman and Babra Sharif, who ruled the industry decades ago. She also accredited Meera for exemplary work in successful films. She said that the new-comers should idolize the work of these great actors.  “When I joined the film industry, the work environment wasn’t great. Me and other actors from that era had to work hard. But at the same time, there was an ideal mix of creativity and entertainment.”

In her illustrious career, Sana has played various renowned roles in Yeh Dil Aap Ka Huwa, Kyun Tumse Itna Pyar Hai, Mujhe Jeene Do, Jannat Ki Talash among many other blockbusters. Sana also shared her Bollywood experience, saying, “I had a good time working in India but due to my family, I couldn’t pursue a career in Bollywood. My family is in Pakistan and that is my priority.”
