Power cuts in Karachi

Letter May 31, 2015
The frequent and prolonged power outages have become a headache for students

KARACHI: With the arrival of summer, power cuts have increased in Karachi and for hours people have to spend time without electricity. Not everyone can afford generators and there are many who have to suffer extreme heat without electricity. Added to this is the problem of voltage fluctuations, which lead to malfunctioning of appliances.

The frequent and prolonged power outages have become a headache for students like me. When I leave for university, there is a power outage, and when I come back home later in the day, I find the power outage persisting. With examinations on the horizon, something needs to be done about the curse of power cuts otherwise thousands of students in the city will suffer the consequences.
