KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday issued notices to the management of Labbaik television channel on a federal government's request seeking exclusion of the Axact CEO Shoaib Ahmed Sheikh and three others from the list of the TV channel's directors and shareholders.

An SHC division bench, headed by its Chief Justice Faisal Arab, directed the private TV channel's management to submit its comments by June 5.

This direction came after the federal government requested the SHC to vacate its earlier stay order against the interior ministry's decision to exclude Sheikh, his wife Ayesha Sheikh, Axact Vice Chairman Vaqas Atiq and Sarwar Bashir from the list of directors and shareholders of the television channel.

The federal government said that the management of Labbaik TV had earlier nominated the above individuals as directors and shareholders in the television. However, the interior ministry had excluded their names from the list of the TV channel's shareholders, citing their 'non-clearance of security.'

Labbaik TV's management had later challenged the interior ministry's decision in the SHC, which on July 8, 2013 granted a stay against the interior ministry’s order.

The federal law officer argued that the Supreme Court had already raised questions over transparency in the affairs of Axact, which is allegedly engaged in a fake degree scandal.

He requested that the high court should vacate its earlier stay against the interior ministry's decision of excluding the four persons from the list of Labbaik TV's directors and shareholders.
