An estimated 6 million people die every year across the world owing to the use of tobacco and 600,000 get affected from passive smoking. This was revealed at a seminar at the Islamabad Medical and Dental College (IMDC) to mark “World No Tobacco Day” on May 31.

Students of Islamabad and Rawalpindi’s medical colleges delivered presentations on the subject of ‘no smoking’.

IMDC Managing Director Yasir Naizi said the college has launched a campaign against tobacco and would spread it all over the country. “Everyone knows that tobacco kills but we will have to take concrete steps to keep the youth away from the curse of smoking.”

“One person dies of smoking every eight seconds in the world. Nicotine leads to addiction but no steps are being taken at the government level to reduce their harm,” said a speaker.
