KARACHI:

The export of high technology-based goods should be enhanced instead of manufactured goods if Pakistan wants to survive in world trade because the share of technology-based products is growing continuously.

This was stated by Mohammad Ali Jinnah University Karachi Business Administration faculty Dean Dr Shafiqur Rehman.

Rehman said one of the major obstacles to assessing Pakistan’s position among competitors in the knowledge-based economy was either unavailability or limited data on key parameters without which effective planning could not take place.

“Liberalising the telecommunications industry and promotion of e-business and e-government will help promote intra- and international trade,” he added.

He asked private sector organisations to change their work practices and compete in knowledge-based economy. “Equally important is the improvement in our management system in terms of international standards, this will include implementation of ISO certifications.”
