I would request the authorities concerned to take appropriate measures for the sake of the future of Pakistan cricket

KARACHI: After the retirement of Shahid Afridi and Misbahul Huq, Pakistan’s One-Day International (ODI) team doesn’t seem to be a dangerous one at all. Bangladesh, who could not beat us for the last 16 years, whitewashed Pakistan in the recent series. Surely, there are faults in our domestic cricket, which has led to this state of affairs. The Indian cricket board regularly arranges domestic tournaments. The Ranji Trophy first class tournament goes on for almost a whole year. The Indian Premier League holds up to 60 matches and goes on for two months. Contrastingly, our domestic Super 8 Twenty20 tournament didn’t even last 10 days.

During this 10-day tournament, we saw immense talent, some of which was selected for the series against Zimbabwe. If we could find such talent in just 10 days, how much would we find if we increased the lengths of tournaments, or held them frequently to polish the talent we already have? We have to improve our domestic cricket. I would request the authorities concerned to take appropriate measures immediately for the sake of the future of Pakistan cricket.
