As LB polls near, ECP summons K-P officials for violating code of conduct

Secretaries of local government, Zakat and elementary and secondary education summoned to explain ad campaign

PESHAWAR: With local body polls just a week away in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the provincial Election Commission (ECP) has served notices to several government officials for allegedly violating the code of conduct.

According to a statement issued on Saturday, the commission summoned secretaries of local government, Zakat and elementary and secondary education after Qaumi Watan Party’s provincial chief Sikandar Hayat Sherpao alleged that the these officials had publicised their campaign through advertisements in local newspapers.

While considering the plea, the ECP asked the secretaries to explain their position on the matter to the poll body on May 25, 2015.

Final candidates

Meanwhile, ECP published the final list of candidates for local body elections scheduled to be held in the province on May 30, Radio Pakistan reported.

ECP officials said that a total of 84,420 candidates will contest for 41,762 seats across the province.

The ECP has planned to set up 11,211 polling stations including 3,428 for male voters, and 3,059 for female. There will be 4,724 combined polling booths.

Moreover, provincial government has finalised a comprehensive security plan to ensure peaceful atmosphere to the voters in electing their representatives.
