Corrupt mentality

Letter May 23, 2015
It isn’t just politicians who are corrupt, it is actually the mentality of each Pakistani and some of those amongst us

HYDERABAD: For decades, we have been blaming RAW, al Qaeda, the TTP and various non-state actors for spreading chaos in Pakistan. However, have we ever looked at our own shortcomings? No, we have not. Since the inception of the nascent state, only a negligible number of people survive who really did something for Pakistan. Otherwise, one can find an ample number of profit seekers whose first priority was to exploit the motherland for their personal gains.

Possessing such a corrupt and wicked mentality of exploiting our own motherland for personal interests has pulled us to the epicentre of this quagmire. It isn’t just the politicians who are corrupt, it is actually the mentality of each Pakistani and some of those amongst us have taken these qualities to their positions of leadership and politics. Our behaviour leads to corruption in politics and is as bad an influence on our children as the Taliban or RAW. We have provided these organisations with the vacuum where they can build their strongholds. The only way out of this menacing situation is to mould our collective character towards ethics and rectify our corrupt mentalities. Until and unless we achieve this, the situation will not get better and will further worsen.
