BARKHAN: There is no denying the fact that the nation can reach the pinnacle of success only through education. The education sector of Balochistan has been neglected by every successive government. Despite the imposition of an education emergency and increasing of the education budget to 26 per cent by the provincial government in 2014, the state of education in Balochistan remains in a very alarming condition.

According to the Pakistan Social and Living Standard Measurement, a survey conducted by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, the literacy rate of Balochistan decreased by three per cent in the year 2013-2014. Further dismal figures cited in the Survey negate the claims made by Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch and his allies with regard to improvement in the education scenario of the province. Though the government is constructing new school buildings in the province, it cannot bring any effective change in education until the quality aspect is focused upon. Conditions cannot be improved until the powers that be reform their attitude towards Balochistan and take sincere and solid steps because without education, the hope for a peaceful Balochistan will remain a dream.
