Two workers killed, one injured as factory elevator breaks down in Karachi

KARACHI: At least two workers were killed and one injured on Monday when an elevator broke down in a garment factory located in SITE area of Karachi, Express News reported.

The deceased succumbed to their injuries on their way to the nearby hospital.

Sources from the Chippa Welfare sources told that the dead were identified as Rashid and Asghar, while the injured – who is in critical condition - is named as Adnan.

Adnan sustained a head injury and subsequently underwent an operation.

As soon as the incident took place, both police and Rangers were deployed in the area to conduct investigation and the factory was also reportedly closed.

On May 4, around 13 factory workers, including two women, were caught in a garment factory fire in the same area.

Initial reports revealed that the fire was caused by a short circuit and sources confirmed that the fire has now spread extensively, making it difficult for fire tenders to bring it under control.
