PM foreign assets case: LHC directs petitioner to come up with better arguments

Lahore High Court adjourns hearing of the case till May 15

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) directed the petitioner to come with prepared arguments in the foreign assets case against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and adjourned the hearing till May 15, Express News reported.

After 26 years, LHC Chief Justice Manzoor Ahmed Malik formed a five-member larger bench to investigate money laundering allegations against the premier. Barrister Javed Iqbal Jafri had originally filed the petition against PM Nawaz in 1991.

In Friday's hearing, Jafri was given more time to prepare arguments.

The petitioner told the court that the prime minister's family originally owned a two bedroom house in Amritsar but now they have now assets  worth more than $40 billion.

"PM Nawaz should be disqualified not only from contesting elections but also from applying for elections," Jafri argued.

"The court is aware of the severity of the matter but you should come up with prepared arguments," Justice Farrukh Irfan remarked.
