Dr Syed Alam Mehsud, who leads the Pakhtunkhwa Ulasi Tehreek, has announced to hold a protest demonstration in Islamabad on May 12 against what he said is a change in the proposed route for China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Addressing a meeting of the tehreek in Islamabad, Mehsud also announced to hold a press conference on the issue at the Peshawar Press Club on May 8.

He said the change will affect Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa economically and hence announced to oppose the change.

He said changes in the route will increase the sense of deprivation among Pakhtuns.

Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, however, has said that there is no change in the route and termed such allegations baseless. The minister asked doubters to present evidence to prove their claim.
