Quetta in danger

Letter May 03, 2015
Earthquake tremors were felt in various areas of Balochistan, including Quetta, days after the earthquake in Nepal

TURBAT: It was on January 15, 1934 that a tragic earthquake shook the city of Kathmandu, Nepal, killing more than 17,000 people. Almost, after a year and a half, on May 13, 1935, an earthquake of 7.7 magnitude flattened Quetta killing nearly 7,000 people. Some analysts see a link between the two natural disasters and name them ‘sister earthquakes’.

It seems that to some extent this assertion is right as on the night of April 30, earthquake tremors were felt in various areas of Balochistan, including Quetta, days after the earthquake in Nepal. Therefore, the authorities concerned should take this seriously and ensure protective measures for Quetta.
