PPP party leader from FATA attacked in Bajaur

Bajaur agency political admin confirms attack; launches search operation, arrests 23 suspects

KHAR: Pakistan People Party (PPP) central executive committee member and the party’s FATA coordinator Akhunzada Chitan’s convoy came under an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in Manogi Salarzai, Bajaur agency.

A former MNA from the agency, Chitan was returning from a party function to the agency headquarter in Khar on Saturday when he suffered the attack.

Bajaur agency political administration confirmed the attack and said that Chitan's brother, Bakhtzada’s car, was damaged in the blast.

After the attack, the political administration launched a search operation and rounded up 23 suspects under FCR.

Chitan had represented Bajaur agency in the National Assembly from 2008 to 2013 and is the sole central executive committee member of the party from FATA.

No one had claimed responsibility of the attack till the filing of this report.

The Bajaur political administration has beefed up security in the agency after they demolished homes of two suspected militants’in Badan Mamond.

The attack on Chitan comes days after a peace committee leader was killed on Friday in an explosion in Nawagi Khas district of Bajaur Agency.
