Assessing the NTS

Letter April 16, 2015
Has the testing service enhanced the capacity and talent of individuals in any way?

ISLAMABAD: We seem to be fostering a “National Testing Service (NTS) Generation” in every public-sector organisation of the country. Those who floated this idea were lucky enough and would have become billionaires without any intellectual effort or struggle. They knew the psyche of this nation and have cashed in on it.

The question is: what is the utility of various relevant bodies and education institutions when one private entity — the NTS — conducts different written tests and decides upon the employability of a candidate based on that? Why isn’t a candidate’s calibre and intellectual training in other respects taken into account in this case? Another million-dollar question is: it has been more than a decade since the NTS has been operating. Has the testing service enhanced the capacity and talent of individuals in any way? Has it brought any kind of improvement in the organisations which has used its services?
