PESHAWAR: To acknowledge the achievements of businesspersons amidst deteriorating law and order, the K-P Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KPCCI) announced the 12th Business Excellence Award for 2013-14.

“The economy of the province has been severely impacted by militancy,” said KPCCI President Fawad Ishaq during a press conference at his office on Wednesday. “Capital flight due to poor law and order has damaged an already suffering economy.”

Yet, he added, traders and industrialists continue to run their businesses, and “will be encouraged and acknowledged for their services”.

And the award goes to…

The award show, he said, will be held in May in Islamabad where Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will be the chief guest.

Award Committee Chairman Muhammad Asif, who was also present at the conference, said eleven gold medals will be awarded in four sectors – four medals would be given for industries, three for commercial enterprises and two each for services and retail sectors.

Young entrepreneurs and female entrepreneurs will also be awarded for the first time.

An award will be given for corporate social responsibility, said Asif. One award will be given for the export in the industries and commerce sectors.

Cellular companies will be recognised for issuing the highest number of SIMs, installing the maximum number of signal boosters and opening a considerable number of franchises. Companies will also be honoured for creating the most jobs in the telecom sector.

In the banking sector, four awards will be given under the category of KPCCI Bank of the Province and three in Islamic banking, said Asif. Seven awards will be distributed in the “special category”, he said.
