Death traps in Defence

The authorities have constructed garbage dumps in the middle of the road

KARACHI: These are the garbage dumps which serve as death traps for commuters in Defence, Karachi. The authorities have constructed them in the middle of the road. They jut out on the street to nearly two feet or so and one of them recently nearly took our lives. The impact was extremely severe, considering we were not speeding at all. It was just that our driver did not expect this trap jutting out on the road giving him no time to slam his brakes. This one is on Khayaban-e-Shujaat crossing Khayaban-e- Bukhari.

I passed out, bleeding. Some kind people, especially a young doctor, took all four of us in the car to the nearest emergency facility. I got seven stitches on my head, and was badly shaken and bruised. A cousin got five stitches and a hairline fracture on the arm. In short, all four of us were severely shocked and hurt. Who does one ask to look into these danger zones? The authorities concerned must do something immediately about this before more people are hurt or, God forbid, killed.
