A graveyard of books

The author dispels the commonly held myth about KU that it is no longer a place where one can receive good education

KARACHI: I am writing in response to the Speakers’ Corner’s piece, “A graveyard of books” by Hurmat Majid, published in The Express Tribune on March 25.

I must say that being a huge fan of literature, I was pleased to read that article. Majid dispels the commonly held myth about KU. The myth that it is no longer a place where one can receive good education. I was happy to see that the writer spelled out the commonly held misconceptions about KU, specially by speaking about the murmurs that surround the central library by people in general — largely that it is “a graveyard of books”. She rightly points out that the said library is laden with hidden treasures.

As someone who has just joined KU, the article provided a pleasant revelation of the things that have gotten buried under the glamour of things that have emerged and are just emerging in my country and city. KU has been left behind by newer universities that have come into existence. The article motivates one to discover the untapped treasures, those that have been shrouded by the fame and glamour of the existing universities.
