Contempt of court: ATC issues warrants for 2 policemen

KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) issued on Thursday non-bailable warrants for two police inspectors, investigating an extortion case, for not complying with court orders.

Inspectors Tariq Ali and Fariduddin had to produce witnesses and evidence before the ATC-I in a case registered against three men belonging to Lyari gang. The officers failed to appear in court despite repeated notices. Judge Bashir Ahmed Khoso ordered them to be present at the next hearing on April 7.

The prosecution data of the case read that the suspects, Yaseen, Noman and Khalid Baloch, were arrested by Gulshan-e-Iqbal police in March last year after they had demanded Rs200,000 as extortion from a businessman, Amjad Hussain. The trial has passed the indictment phase and is lingering now due to delays in the production of witnesses.
