Missed polio targets

Letter March 23, 2015
More than 16,400 families across the country refused to get their children vaccinated

SHIKARPUR: It is a shocking situation that more than 16,400 families across the country refused to get their children vaccinated in the previous rounds of polio vaccination and up to 610,333 children were missed because their families were not available when vaccination teams visited their homes during the first two days of the latest round of the National Polio Campaign.

It is the primary responsibility of parents to get their children vaccinated regularly to save them from a lifetime of disability, but many are reluctant to do so due to illiteracy and ignorance about the gravity of the polio virus. Civil society organisations and social activists have to play an active role to create awareness among parents about the serious problem of polio virus.
