An unpredictable team (II)

Letter March 22, 2015
The rogues and rotten apples must be ousted from positions of power

LAHORE: The entire nation is heart-broken over Pakistan’s dismal performance in the quarter-final. They lost a crucial match without putting a strong enough fight. The defeat has demoralised fans and lovers of cricket. It is not the defeat but the way they played, which was disappointing. I think this is the right time to restructure the cricket board and the team by introducing reforms and new blood. That will only be possible if we get rid of the old dead wood. Some brainstorming should be done to come up with a feasible plan in this regard. The rogues and rotten apples must be ousted from positions of power.

There should be no more opportunities for Umar Akmal, who has never performed well. Sohaib Maqsood seems like a wasted talent too and I do not wish to talk about him anymore. He should quit on his own or be axed. Ahmad Shehzad is another lost cause. The poor man has a defective technique, and gets out playing the same shot over and over again. He, too, must go. Rahat Ali performed well as a bowler. He should be retained even though he dropped a simple catch which in all probability cost us a place in the semi-final. Younus Khan was ill-treated by the management. He is an experienced veteran of the game and should be retained in the team.
