Unfair closure

Letter February 28, 2015
Karachi, the main port city, due to a day’s closure suffers huge losses calculated to be around Rs1.5-2 billion.

KARACHI: Has anyone ever thought about the violence caused by political parties and the consequent outcomes of closing down cities and the inconvenience that civilians have to face? Political parties give statements that lead to the fostering of the worst kind of situations and abrupt closures of cities.

This show of power affects people in an adverse manner, especially those working on daily wages. With many mouths to feed and often only one breadwinner in each family, closure of cities due to the antics of political parties is an ordeal. Take for instance, our city of Karachi that has approximately 750,000 workers of which more than 50 per cent are on daily wages. The families of these workers are severely affected during sudden closures of the city. Karachi, the main port city, due to a day’s closure suffers huge losses calculated to be around Rs1.5-2 billion. Political parties need to realise that we are all part of Pakistan and it is high time we all got united and made decisions for the betterment of the country. We need to be on the same page for the sake of a more prosperous future of our country.
