Disabled cricket: Pakistan beat Afghanistan by 109 runs

An important 132-run partnership between Arif Richard and Matloob Qureshi guided Pakistan’s disabled cricket team to a 109-run victory over Afghanistan in the first one-dayer of the International Disabled Cricket Series at the National Stadium Karachi on Thursday.


Opting to bat first, Pakistan posted 275-7 in their stipulated 40 overs with the help of two half centuries; one by man of the match Richard, who smashed 70 off 72 balls with 11 fours, and the other by one-handed Qureshi, who hit 58 off 56 balls with five fours. Captain Hasnain Alam scored 32 off 26 balls. Nabiullah took 2-43, while Abdullah, Shafiq Shameem and Sheirin Akkakhail picked up a wicket each.


Chasing 276, Afghanistan were dismissed at 167 in 32.2 overs as Abdullah Ejaz and Fayyaz Ahmed took three wickets while conceding 35 and 47 runs respectively. Ameer Ahmed took 2-31 and Rao Javed claimed one. Afghanistan’s Muhammad Ashraf scored 52 off 48 balls, while Farid Momand scored 37 off 51 balls.
