Solar power in Pakistan

Letter February 27, 2015
I request authorities concerned to ensure that this highly productive technology is used properly, in an honest manner

ISLAMABAD: Solar-panel technology can prove to be productive in obtaining power from sunlight. The rise in solar-panel sales has proved that people are very interested in installing this system in their houses to get an alternative power source during a power outage. In recent times, the government has also taken initiatives to utilise solar power to provide energy to street-lights besides utilising it elsewhere in the country too. It took long enough for the government to realise that the country’s energy needs could not be met by renewable fuel sources, but it is good news for the nation that it finally did.

Solar-panel technology can also be seen in large numbers in various cities of Sindh in order to light up roads and streets during night time. It has become a tradition of the PPP-led Sindh government that it does not supervise matters in a manner to ensure transparency in the way resources are used. I request the authorities concerned to ensure that this highly productive technology is used properly and in an honest manner so that the maximum number of people can benefit from it.
