Pakistan-China economic corridor

Letter February 23, 2015
Some elements are trying to change its route to make it pass predominantly through parts of central Punjab

ISLAMABAD: The government has planned to establish an economic corridor from China to Gwadar. This is certainly a great decision and will surely have far-reaching effects on our economy. Pakistan and China are old friends and are important countries in the world arena.

The economic corridor, however, has been surrounded by controversy of late. Some elements are trying to change its route to make it pass predominantly through parts of central Punjab, instead of through D I Khan. This will add to the already prevailing resentment in the country. It is indeed an alarming situation. Ours is a society where love and bonds of friendship and love for fellow countrymen are decreasing by the day. We should not allow others to create conflicts in our rank and file. Our leaders should forge unity on this crucial issue.
