Plight of Shikarpur hospital

Letter February 20, 2015
Sindh health department, chief minister are requested to provide doctors, medicines, ambulances, modern facilities

SHIKARPUR: The RBUT Civil Hospital in Shikarpur is currently facing a lot of problems. During the night, more often than not, one cannot find any doctor on duty in any ward. The hospital’s staff often act in a callous manner towards patients. Poor patients are not provided with free medicines or even disposable syringes, drip sets, drip cords, urine bags and canola, etc. These items have to be purchased from private medical stores. Even patients with minor illnesses and injuries are referred to hospitals in other cities due to a lack of specialist doctors and an acute shortage of medicines, equipment and facilities.

Regrettably, specialist doctors such as psychiatrists, neuro-physicians, neuro-surgeons, urologists, etc. have never been posted to the hospital. The hospital has been without a general surgeon or cardiologist for the past three years. Three out of the four ambulances are out of order. The Sindh health department and the chief minister are requested to provide specialist doctors, medicines, ambulances, and modern facilities and equipment at the hospital.
