HARIPUR: Haripur assistant commissioner and the provincial drug inspector caught a lady health visitor (LHV) selling medicines which were expired and without official stamps at the Khanpur Hospital pharmacy. An enquiry has been launched against her.
Drug inspector Aqib Shah told journalists he and Haripur Assistant Commissioner Imran Zia raided the official pharmacy of Khanpur Hospital and found LHV Raeesa Begum selling medicines without stamps to patients visiting the hospital for examination.
She confessed the medicines had been bought from a source not authorised by the health department and she was selling them to patients at the government-run hospital.

The drug inspector also recovered from her a sizable quantity of expired medicines issued to the hospital by the health department and UNICEF in 2012/13. The drugs never made it to the intended patients. Shah said the expired medicines were worth Rs70,000.

The drug inspector lodged a written complaint with the health secretary and Haripur district health officer for disciplinary action against the medical superintendent of Khanpur Hospital, the pharmacy in charge and Raeesa Begum.
