HARIPUR:

Two minor brothers with special needs suffocated to death when a fire erupted in their room in a remote village in Sera-e-Nehmat union council of Haripur, police and locals said on Thursday.

Residents of the area told the police that daily wage earner Muhammad Javed of Baeyan Ahmed Ali Khan village left for work on Thursday morning.

His wife went to attend the annual parents’ day at their elder son Noman’s school, leaving behind their sons deaf Hasnain Ali, 4, and Zeeshan Ali, 6. In order to prevent them from leaving the house, Javed’s wife locked their room from the outside.

At around 10am, one of the two brothers got hold of a matchstick and lit some cloth which led to a table catching fire. The fire soon engulfed the entire room and smoke billowed out, rendering the children unconscious.

Locals helped pull the children out. Both brothers, however, could not survive and died at a local hospital before medical assistance could be provided.
