SHABQADAR: Several office-bearers of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in Charsadda have decided to quit the party over the apathy shown towards them by the party’s central and provincial leadership.
A party insider told The Express Tribune the decision was taken during a meeting held on Friday. He maintained a large number of office-bearers in Charsadda have become disenchanted with the PML-N leadership in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. They have repeatedly complained about how the party has overlooked their needs, he added.
According to the insider, they have also voiced reservations over the lack of authority given to them.
“Office-bearers from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government in the province have authority in most provincial government departments,” he said. “However, PML-N workers in Charsadda have very little to do in the federal government.”
Moreover, PML-N office-bearers have raised concerns over the provincial government’s indifference to their problems.
“Very little attention has been given to their grievances,” the party insider said. “Last month, the governor held a meeting with PML-N workers after they stood up for their rights in Peshawar. After that meeting, little has been done to help them out.”
The decision has been confirmed by the party’s PK-22 candidate for the provincial assembly, Sajjad Aurakzai, and PML-N Shabqadar President Aftab Khan Mohmand.
According to the leaders, the PML-N remains a strong party in Charsadda. However, after the party seized the reins in the centre, it only paid attention to Hazara division and ignored the needs of the rest of the province.
PML-N office-bearers said they drew the party leadership’s attention to the power outages and gas load-shedding plaguing the province. However, the leadership has turned a blind eye to the matter. Further details on the resignations will be revealed during a meeting scheduled for Monday.
