MUZAFFARABAD:

A biometric system was installed in Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s Department of Planning and Development (P&D).

AJK Finance Minister Chaudhry Latif Akbar inaugurated the system deeming it to be a step towards electronic governance in the region.

“The inauguration of the biometric system shows that the government is working to equip all departments with the latest technology to enhance their progress,” the minister said.

Akbar said the system would help individuals know about the status of their files [applications] without having to wait for hours.

Speaking on the occasion, P&D Secretary Zaffar Nabi Butt said that the installation of the biometric system was a challenge for his colleagues however, all employees of the department as a team decided to get it installed.

He said the system would set an example for other departments to follow. The system would help register employee attendance using thumb impressions as well as provide information about development projects in the region.
