MINGORA: The youth play an important role in the development of a country and it is encouraging to see them deliver fiery speeches against anti-state elements.

This was stated by MPA Aisha Syed as she spoke at an event titled ‘Responsibility of society towards peace in Swat’. The seminar was held at Wadudia Hall in Saidu Sharif on Thursday and organised jointly by the Innovative Youth Forum and the Pakistan Army.

Students of various schools and colleges from Malakand Division took part in a speech competition and expressed their love for Pakistan.

“Their spirit will put the country on the track towards peace and prosperity,” she said.

“We have presented a resolution in the provincial assembly to establish a women’s university in Swat. I hope it will be approved soon,” she added.

Deputy District Education Officer Zulfilqarul Mulk said the event aimed to create awareness among the younger generation. “We have brought people from all walks of life under one roof so they can express their views and understand the importance of peace and development,” he said.

Nida Gul, a student of Thana in Malakand Division, won the speech competition. The student said she was excited to have the chance to express herself in front a huge gathering of literati.  “More such activities need to be arranged for students of the area,” she said.

“The speech competition was fruitful and we learned many things from scholars and elders,” said Tehsin Mehmood, who came second.
