Saving animals from cruelty

Letter December 21, 2014
There is a pressing need for animal rights and laws in this country.

KARACHI: Donkey-carts are widely used in different parts of Pakistan as a means of transportation. However, people and the authorities do not see this as cruelty to animals. These donkeys are kept in the worst condition possible. They are often dragged on the roads, forcefully. By just looking at them, one can tell they have not been fed for days and they look physically weak.

The leather straps around their bodies tend to give them deep wounds and as the donkey moves, the straps open up the wounds further due to friction between the leather and their skin. There is a pressing need for animal rights and laws in this country. It is important we learn how to respect animals and look after them.
