Crime report: Police nab suspected terrorist over weekend

The suspected terrorist, identified as Mukamal Khan, 25, was a resident of Waziristan, says police.

ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad Police arrested a suspected terrorist of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and seized explosives from him in a raid near Khanna Pul on Saturday.

The police said the suspected terrorist, identified as Mukamal Khan, 25, was a resident of Waziristan and large quantity of explosives, nine detonators and wires were seized from him in the raid.

The investigation officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Tariq Rauf, said Khan was carrying a bag and walking near Khanna Pul when a police team encircled him and recovered the explosives from the bag he was carrying. “He was not travelling in a vehicle. He was walking on foot carrying the explosives,” said Rauf.

The officer said Khan was a member of the TTP and had links with different militant organisations, adding that he was heading to the capital at the time of his arrest. It was revealed during the initial investigation that Khan has also spent time in Afghanistan, Rauf said.

He added that the suspect has been sent to jail on judicial custody remand after he was produced before the concerned court on Sunday.
