PESHAWAR:

A special medical centre has been established at Central Jail Peshawar to treat prisoners and to conduct laboratory tests.

The centre has been set up on the directives of Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and Secretary for Home and Tribal Affairs Syed Akhtar Ali Shah, stated a handout issued on Monday from the home department.

At the centre, prisoners will be provided health services along with a proper system to test for diseases like hepatitis, tuberculosis, cancer and aids.

The handout added prisoners are being provided vocational training and basic education to transform prisons into reform centres rather than torture cells.

“Such measures would contribute towards making the prisoners useful citizens who would not only be able to live a respectable life, but also render their services to society after getting free,” said the dispatch.
