Organised human smuggling

Billions of rupees are involved in this evil trade, which has brought nothing but disrepute to our country

DUBAI: This is with reference to reports about 19 Afghan nationals travelling from Islamabad, who were caught in the UK. When institutions like the FIA are accused by foreign governments of being involved in human smuggling, bringing disrepute to our green passport, then the state, with all its power, should act strongly against all those involved. It was during Pervez Musharraf’s tenure that the British government threatened to halt all PIA flight operations originating from Islamabad because those involved in human smuggling included powerful political families from Gujrat and members of the establishment. However, greed has blinded the members of the powerful corrupt nexus to continue with their business, while the state looks on helplessly at its failings.

Scores of reports have emerged of women involved in prostitution, members of terrorist networks, criminals from South Africa, known drug smugglers, foreign mercenaries and controversial security contractors managing to get their people to enter Pakistan and live in Islamabad without any documentation. Billions of rupees are involved in this evil trade, which has brought nothing but disrepute to our country and contributed to a rise in crime; yet, all those involved in this conspiracy against the state manage to get away. There is no rocket science involved to prove the guilt of the culprits because lifestyle and assets acquired by those involved are proof enough.
