A kind deed

Letter November 22, 2014
When Saleem’s wife arrived, the man handed over all of Saleem’s possessions to her, including his money pouch

KARACHI: November 15 was a fateful day for my family. My nephew Saleem, riding on a motorbike, was hit by a motorist who fled the scene. Saleem lay on the roadside with massive head injuries. Help appeared in the form of Mohammad Umair — a young student working to support his studies — who carried him and took him to a small hospital in the Mehmoodabad area of Karachi. There he was told that the hospital did not have the facilities to handle accident victims and Umair was advised to take Saleem to Jinnah hospital. Umair took my injured nephew to Jinnah hospital in a rickshaw and contacted the family through Saleem’s cell phone.

When Saleem’s wife arrived, the young man handed over all of Saleem’s possessions to her, including a pouch containing his money and quietly left the hospital. Everyone who hears about this good deed says that it has renewed their faith in humanity. The reason why I am sharing this incident is because I want to spread this good news as widely as I can and also with the hope that this young lad (an angel of mercy for us) will get appreciation and prayers from countless people, who read and hear about his thoughtful deed. Thank you, thank you, thank you Mohammad Umair. It is because of you that Saleem is now recovering after a life-saving surgery.
