Those who lead us

Letter November 20, 2014
These days, no one can watch news channels because of the language used by our ‘beloved’ politicians

RAWALPINDI: We are living in a society where everybody considers himself or herself to be the champion of true democracy, including the self-proclaimed ‘righteous’ leaders, who are actually quite corrupt. Since the last election, the only progress that has been made on the political front is that of the ‘politics of words’. I cannot understand why we have elected people, who are so uncouth, to lead us. These days, no one can watch news channels because of the language used by our ‘beloved’ politicians, while they hurl accusations at one another. Where are we headed? Do we want to push our society towards the politics of extremism when we are already stuck in the quagmire produced by terrorism? We are so fixated on petty politics that the larger picture of things completely escapes us.

Our security forces are engaged in eradicating the menace of terrorism and need our support as a nation. Instead, we are busy in blame games and in the politics of dharnas. What sort of change can one witness in such a situation where the common man is suffering due to price hikes, and increase in CNG and petrol prices, while our politicians are still chanting the slogan of ‘change’. One can only hope for a better tomorrow.
